Amidst the holiday excitement, we have still been busy in the Aqua office. This month we have uploaded our summer finance and property newsletters and our summer Your Finance Matters magazine to our website. They all are worth a read, especially the magazine, as it covers what you need to know when gifting money, explains investment jargon and what the terms really mean, and has a great FAQ section all about inheritance tax, as well as much more. These documents can be found in the newsletters tab at the top of the page.

 

Sixth Form Finance Talk

Some of the Aqua team started off the month with a trip to a local sixth form to give a talk about financial planning. It was part of a fantastic skills-building couple of days for the students, which also involved useful workshops, such as successful interview techniques and career planning.

We were there to primarily talk about pensions, but we also discussed money management and the finance skills that young people will need in life after school. It was great to find out about the students’ attitudes towards money, and to explain things such as budget planning, financial scams to be aware of, and the top tips they can use to be in control of their money.

We feel very passionate about sharing these presentations with students as we believe that financial planning isn’t just for specific age groups, and it’s good to start thinking about finances as soon as possible.

 

Personal Finance Society Conference

A few weeks ago, some of the Aqua advisers attended the Herts & Middlesex regional Personal Finance Society conference. The speakers never disappoint at these events, and this one was no different. There was some very interesting food for thought from Canada Life on the ever-changing pension landscape and plenty of useful discussions were had.

 

Work Shadowing

As well as offering work experience placements to year 12 students from Hertfordshire this spring and summer, we also offered a work shadowing placement to a year 10 pupil from a school in St Albans this month. They assisted in the Aqua office and worked on some personal finance projects as well as career development skills.
